Another 1.2 billion for Catholics

While further austerity measures are required to keep the state budget running and ten thousands of households are struggling to make ends meet and (literally) get enough food and heating (the maximum unemployment benefit is some net 260 Euro per month and paid for three months only, while regular social security payments are ca. 150 Euro per household plus children’s benefits), prime minister Viktor Orbán has decided to provide an additional 1,2 billion Hungarian forints (4,3 million Euros) to the Catholic order of the Piarists. Mr. Orbán has ordered immediate payment of the subsidy to solve their liquidity problems and to ensure that the Piarists don’t have to get a bank credit for their projects and investments.
In spite of all budget restrictions and austerity programmes, Mr. Orbán has ordered that an equal sum has to be given to the Piarists also in 2013 and 2014.
