Sacred Theater

The new director of the Hungarian National Theater, Mr Attila Vidnyánszky, who was appointed although the previous one, Mr Róbert Alföldi, a renown theater actor and director, was considered to have made a highly successful cultural venue of the rather eclectic building, has stated that the national theater is a sacral space and therefore he will have it consecrated by a priest.

Mr Alföldy’s replacement by Mr Vidnyánszky is only one in a long line of new appointments replacing innovative leaders (even with Fidesz affiliations) by persons who think the task of cultural institutions is to be a sacral place with the aim of strengthening national identity.
